Construction has been going on for just over a month now. We walk by it everyday and it always seems the same. However, some exciting steps are about to be taken that will soon be able to visually see. That’s right, the actually building of the building is about to begin! The first of the concrete is currently being placed in the basement areas. This semester you can expect to see the laying of foundation and the steel being placed.  Green Facts

–          The only LEED Platinum certified student union in the entire CSU system

  • LEED: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
  • Highest possible rating for green buildings

–          80% of materials in the original Aztec Center will be recycled and/or reused for the Aztec Student Union

–          Sustainable elements include a 40% energy reduction, solar panels, radiant floor system, green roof, underground storage tank, pervious paving, natural daylighting, and operable windows

About the Building

–          205,582 gross square feet (double the size of the original Aztec Center)

–          3 Floors and an underground loading dock

–          ARC Express (satellite fitness center)

–          Aztec Lanes (bowling and games)

–          Dining (3 cafes, a pub, and an expanded Aztec Market)

–          Student Life (student organization center, leadership center, and cross-cultural center)

–          Room Space! (14 meeting rooms, a larger Montezuma Hall with a 1,200 capacity, and a 300-seat multipurpose Theatre with tiered seating)
