This Week @ State! (Oct. 8th)

It is SDSU Homecoming Week Aztecs!

Starting October 8th is the Aztec Nation Talent show! Be entertained by your fellow Aztecs’ skills and talents at 7:00pm in front of Viejas Arena!

Tuesday, October 9th is Aztec Field Day on ENS Field. Come with you friends and compete in an inflatable obstacle course!

Wednesday, October 10th is a busy day here on the SDSU Campus!

All day on Wednesday, the Office of Intercultural Relations is hosting a “Share Your Coming Out Story” event to celebrate National Coming Out Week! There is also a “Out of the Closet” photoshoot on Oct. 11. Both event will take palce in from of the SDSU Bookstore. There is also an Ally Panel Discussion on Oct. 16th, and a Movie Night on Oct. 18th! So be sure to check out the LGBT Resource Area website and flyer for all SDSU Coming Out Week event times and locations!

Also on Wednesday, Oct. 10th, from 1:30 – 4:30pm, the Cultural Arts and Special Events Board will be hosting a banner decorating event for Homecoming Week, on Campanile Walkway.  Come on out to help promote Aztec pride and unity! Banners will be displayed at the Homecoming Pep Rally.

From 4:00pm to 6:00pm as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, join discussion on “What Does Being an Aztec Really Mean?” about our very own mascot at the Cholula Community Center. This is final event for Hispanic Heritage Month by the Office of Intercultural Relations, so be sure to check it out!

If that doesn’t peak your interest, at 6:30 pm at Geology, Mathematics, and Computer Science 333, Aztecs for Africa is hosting a screening of  The Invisible Children’s newest documentary, MOVE. It is FREE to all who would like to attend.

On Thursday October 11th from 2:00-3:30pm in the Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, there will be a discussion regarding the importance of knowledge and understanding of race/ethnicity and community in order to advance public health and social justice put on by the Graduate School of Public Health.

Also on the 11th is the Homecoming Pep Rally at 12:00pm on Campanile Walkway. Come out to meet this year’s Grand Marshall, get some free giveaways and enjoy a live DJ!

On Friday October 12th from 9am-10:30am on the Aztec Green there will be a War Memorial Ceremony to pay tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice during our nations military conflicts.  At 9:30am there will be the wreath laying ceremony followed by keynote speaker Rear Admiral Dixon R. Smith.  Following this will be a reception at the Student Veteran Organization House.

For the first time ever at SDSU, we will be having Madness on the Mesa! On October 12th at 9:00pm to midnight at Viejas Arena, SDSU will be celebrating the return of the basketball season. Come watch the first practice, meet the men’s and women’s basketball teams! There will be student competitions, giveaways and more!  It will prove to be the ultimate kickoff to what is going to be an amazing season!
