Monday, November 5: Dr. Francis Smith Foster will be speaking on “the topic of Lies, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and will examine why the humanities are vital to one’s sense of self” at 2:00pm in the Alumni Center. Dr. Foster is an expert on women’s studies, culture, and literature so it guaranteed this is going to be an interesting lecture!
Tuesday, November 6: Are you looking for a job? Trying to update your resume? Don’t know where to start? Then you should go to “Connecting to Career Services!” Career Services here at San Diego State can help you with all that and more! The event is from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Career Services.
Wednesday, November 7: Ever wonder what it was like to serve in World War II? Do you want to learn more about living through one of largest wars in human history? What really won the war? Come to a public presentation put on by WWII survivor, Lester Tenney, Ph.D at 3:00pm in Love Library 430. This presentation is a part of the Veteran Success Lecture series and is sure to be riveting!
Are you a commuter student? There are key resources and information a commuter student needs to know! On Wednesday at 3:00pm in SLL (SSW 1661) a FREE workshop will take place that can provide important information for students who live off campus including transportation, connection to campus and other resources. This workshop is open to all students and is part of the SLL FREE Workshop Series!
One of the best experiences in my life was studying abroad and I hope that all students can have this amazing experience! Want to find out more about how you can study abroad? Worried about graduating on time or how you might pay for it? Well, there is an Education Abroad General Information Session from 3:00 to 4:00pm in the International Student Center! Be sure to be there so you can take advantage of the amazing study abroad opportunities San Diego State has to offer! There is a program that can fit the particular needs of everyone!
Speaking of my time studying abroad in Mexico, on of the most beautiful time of year is when the cities are celebrating and decorated for Dia de los Muertos. In Mexico, instead of celebrating Halloween, it is traditional to celebrate Dia de los Muertos to remember loved ones who have passed away. The Office of Intercultural Relations together with Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc., Association of Chicana Activists, as well as the Maya and Olmeca Residences has are throwing a celebration this tradition! Enjoy a presentation on Dia de los Muertos as well as participate in a Sugar Skull workshop, as well as other activities! This event will take place in the Cholula Community Center from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Thursday, November 8: The Women’s Resource Area and The Student African/African American Sisterhood (SAAS) are hosting an African dance class series to promote the health and wellness of the campus community. Also, to better understand the different nations of Africa along with their culture and politics we will be having film screenings! This Thursday the film will be on Nigeria and will be showing from 12:00 to 1:30pm in Lipinsky.
Friday, November 9: Keeping up with the international theme, every Friday is International Coffee Hour in the International Student Center from 12:00 to 1:00pm! The country highlight for this Friday is Chile! Enjoy conversation with both domestic and international students from around the world! There is coffee and tea provided (and sometimes even free food!)
Are you ready for Basketball season?! Come to this historical event! The season opening game of SDSU Basketball vs Syracuse! The game will take place on the USS Midway at 5:00pm! Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, so be sure to buy them before they sell out!
This Friday and Saturday is also the African Studies 40th Anniversary Conference! This event will take place in the Alumni Center! The reception will be on Friday from 4:00 to 8:30pm and the conference will be on Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. From 7:00 t0 10:00pm on Saturday will be the Awards Ceremony. Be sure to register!
Saturday, November 10: Finally, it just isn’t Saturday with Aztec Football! This Saturday, our Aztecs will battle it out against the Air Force at Qualcomm Stadium at 12:30pm! Be sure to get your tickets and be there in time for some tailgating fun!
By the way, did you know the application for Aztec CORE 2013 is now online?! The application is due by Tuesday, November 27th!
