Good day fellow Aztecs, are you looking for a fun, intriguing, and most importantly, an excellent cause to donate your time to in our city. Well, let me be the first to tell you about a wonderful opportunity that I have come across that can influence you in more ways than one. During the last week of November through the first of December (Nov. 29- Dec. 1) to be exact, the Mike Dempsey Memorial Table Tennis tournament will be held here in our beautiful city of San Diego.
Let’s begin with a little background as to whom this event is being held in memory of. Michael Henry Dempsey (1956-2009) was a Paralympics athlete in table tennis, and the most successful athlete in his sport. The reason why he was so important to the sport was because of not only his accomplishments and success he had within the sport, but because of the innovation with the equipment for future athletes, involvement within the Paralympic community, and leadership as well. He gave his input to create new wheelchairs that were lighter for table tennis athletes to use.
The tournament will host many athletes from many countries around the world. Volunteers are needed to either escort athletes, work security, or being a ball boy/girl for the competition. This is a great way for you to be able to get involved within your community and see a different environment of athletics than you are generally accustomed to. You will learn so much from surrounding yourself with such positive people that enjoy doing what they love regardless of their disabilities.
If you want to get more information on whom to contact to volunteer for this event, you may contact Joe Rubendall at firstname.lastname@example.org or 619-223-2033. Get involved fellow Aztecs; you definitely don’t want to miss an opportunity like this!
