The American Medical Student Association (AMSA), with a half-century history of medical student activism, is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States.
The sole purpose of AMSA is to help guide and improve the lives of medical students from the smallest to the biggest of forms. Medical school is rigorous in numerous departments, and AMSA provides an amazing support system to students who are in need.
AMSA however, is about more than just improving the lives of their students. We currently live in the richest country in the world, yet many have no health insurance and some lack common medical necessities. Research shows that health disparities are wide-spread in America. AMSA’s role in these issues is extremely important because they provide the strength to give power to medical students to take action and create change about issues that they care about. It’s the presence of visionary medical students and their energy that makes AMSA such a powerful organization.
AMSA at San DiegoStateUniversity proves to continue the long lived legacy of the organization. If you are a medical student looking to get involved with a great and beneficial organization, AMSA is an excellent source of support and involvement.
