Classes are in full swing here at San Diego State, so before the semester gets too hectic, why not register to vote? Now—before all of your midterms begin—is the perfect time to register and make sure your voice is heard!
According to the California Public Interest Resource Group (CalPIRG), the total number of youth registrants in the fall of 2012 increased by nearly 14 percent from 2008! Last year, SDSU students contributed to the 27,000 California students who registered to vote online through Rock the Vote! According to the SDSU News Center, Associated Students helped register a record 4,413 student voters last year—nearly 14 percent of the student body!
In order to be eligible to vote, you must meet the following criteria:
-A United States citizen
-A resident of California
-18 years of age or older on Election Day
-Not be in prison or on parole
More information on voting and elections can be found at the Secretary of State’s website, http://registertovote.ca.gov/. Check out the website and register to vote before it’s too late!
