Congratulations on another wonderful year filled with student organization activities and events!

Re-Recognition

Currently, your student organization is recognized through the end of April. Beginning May 1st, your student organization may re-apply for recognition for the upcoming 2014-2015 year.

Below are some of the benefits of getting recognized early:

  • Participation in Student Organization Expos
  • Applying for Student Organization Office & Storage Space
  • Tabling during the first few weeks of school
  • Nominations for Homecoming Court
  • Early Aztec Student Union and University Classroom submissions
  • Organization tailgating at football games
  • Emails announcing important campus events, such as Aztec Nights and other opportunities for involvement

End-of-the-Year Survey

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. We encourage you to participate in completing the survey by Friday, May 9, 2014. Your feedback and suggestions are imperative for us to continue to improve our services to you!

 After you complete the survey, you will be submitted into a random drawing to win a $50 Gift Card to the SDSU Bookstore!

 **NEW** Event Approval System (EAS)

In an effort to better streamline the event approval process beginning May 1, 2014 Student Organization’s will be required to submit their EAS application at least 3 weeks in advance from the event date.

EAS Steps:

  1. Complete and submit the online EAS application.
  2. Request a location or facility
  3. Add event details
  4. Meet with a Student Life & Leadership Advisor to review event logistics.
  5. Once reviewed, an email will be sent regarding the status of the event.

**NEW** Student Leader Diversity Training

New student organization training requirements for the 2014-2015 academic year will include Student Leader Diversity Training.  SDSU Leader Diversity Training is offered in collaboration with the National Conflict Resolution Center, an organization that promotes collaborative dispute resolution and conflict management to individuals, organizations, and society.

There are two SLDT sessions that are both required for all student leaders documented as your top five leaders in the Recognized Student Organization online database.  Session A must be completed before Session B (can be done in the same day).  A certificate of completion is awarded at the completion of Session B.  Both sessions are highly participatory and engaging.  Each session is approximately three hours long.

Session A

This course will reinforce positive communication skills to student leaders so that they can more effectively manage the inevitable conflicts that arise in their roles as campus leaders.  A strategic approach to navigating tense situations and respectfully working through differences is taught.

Session B

Building on the learning from Session A, students will explore how identity impacts communication, and how to reach common ground in an intercultural world.  A look at how effective leaders respect and engage students from a variety of cultural backgrounds and experiences is highlighted.

You can sign up for the sessions online at http://studentvoice.com/sdsu/studentdiversitytrainingsp14.  Several sessions are offered in the month of May.  Go online to sign-up for sections that meet your schedule.  Please note that sessions will fill up quickly.  Seats are available on a first-come first served basis.  As well, a minimum of ten people are needed to fill each section.

Organizations that do not have their new leaders attend these training sessions are subject to losing their recognition status at SDSU.  So, sign up soon!  Avoid the rush for fall and attend a session this spring.

Session A

  •          Tuesday, May 13 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
  •          Tuesday, May 20 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm

Session B

  •          Wednesday, May 14 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
  •          Wednesday, May 21 from 3:00om to 6:00pm
